The Axmouth Community have produced postcards that they will give to every household in the village along with a copy of Luke’s gospel. This initiative is to let the village know that the Axmouth Community love and care for the village through prayer. The church are also creating a prayer area within the church building and offering pastoral care to villagers.

A couple of years ago, I did an unprecedented thing. I unplugged myself from Facebook. One morning I had an epiphany that I was not controlling Facebook, but Facebook was controlling me. In a move of desperate counter-culturalism, and without warning my (satisfyingly extensive, cough) network of friends, acquaintances, and people that I had never met, I deleted my account. Despite feeling slightly bereaved, I felt liberated. I was free.

Have you ever wondered why a church service is called a service? Who is it servicing? The title conjures up the idea that in some way, something is being dispensed to the people that gather. We, the gathered are being served. I have to confess that this is why I sneakily change the title from ‘service’ to ‘gathering’ in our literature, on the website, on bulletins and on posters. Perhaps this is in some vain hope that the emphasis of our meetings will be on community and not on that which is being dispensed from the front.
