More Tea Vicar?

Dear Friends

There has been a huge surge in the uptake of ebooks (electronic books).  I recently visited a retreat centre and was gobsmacked to see how many people were using Amazon Kindles and the like – and these were not young people.  The publishers are reporting a phenomenal growth in this area

More Tea Vicar?

Dear Friends

Here we are, one month into 2011.  I wonder if you have managed to keep up those New Year resolutions?  Or did you not make one, thinking it was a waste of time.  After all, you would just be setting yourself up to fail again.  You had tried making resolutions and

Renewal

So, on Sunday, after writing a resurrection hymn and then discovering that God was asking me to rest, I decided to let God speak to me.  He had made it clear that he wanted my attention, and now he had it, would he speak?

Godincidence

There is a term us Christians use when things seem to fall into place, and it appears to be just a bit more than a coincidence.  Well, this happened to me this week…

Friday night to Monday night…

On Friday I took two school assemblies, led a school music workshop, met with an Axmouth churchwarden, attended a Coastal Group meeting, had a lunch date with Andy Hague, worked on the News Update with Carol, had a church development meeting, spent time with the kids, had a friend over for dinner, and got appendicitis…!  Thanks to everyone for their love and best wishes.  I’m back home now, resting.  Phew!

Heaps of Peace

Gavin

P.S. Please do pray for those we know who are in hospital at this time… Brian, Colin, etc.  They are going through so much more than I had to go through in my three days away.  Thanks.

This week, Revd Gavin Tyte reminds us to ‘be excellent to each other’…

The church has often been perceived as asking for money.  You see those giant appeal thermometers outside church buildings asking for money to repair steeples, ancient organs, and so on.  But I wonder if the church should be seeking to bless the community and not take from it.  This October, there are a number of ways in which you can receive a blessing from the church or join in with the church in blessing others.  Here are just a few…

Have you ever had that dream, the one where you discover that you are naked in a public place?  You are usually in the village shop, walking in a busy street, or at a parochial church council meeting, and for some reason you have no clothes on.  It happened to me last night.  Last night, I dreamed I was on a busy tube train in London and discovered that I had no clothes on.  Far from being a perverse fantasy, it is a nightmare.  You usually end up running for cover with your hands covering  your bits, trying not to look anyone in they eye.

A couple of years ago, I did an unprecedented thing.  I unplugged myself from Facebook.  One morning I had an epiphany that I was not controlling Facebook, but Facebook was controlling me.  In a move of desperate counter-culturalism, and without warning my (satisfyingly extensive, cough) network of friends, acquaintances, and people that I had never met, I deleted my account.  Despite feeling slightly bereaved, I felt liberated.  I was free.
