London based Canadian tenor will be giving a recital of English song in the church building on Saturday 21st January at 7.30pm. Included in the programme will be Benjamin Brittan’s Winter Words, a group of eight poems by Thomas Hardy set to music in 1953. No charge will be made for this concert but a retiring collection will, as usual, will be given to the performers after expenses have been deducted. Put the date in your diary now!
John has performed throughout Europe and Canada. This year he was the leading vocalist at the Paxos Music Festival in Greece. This young tenor is rapidly establishing himself as a singer of exceptional musicianship, warmth, style and character. He has been praised for his dramatic intensity ,vocal beauty, clarity and agility.
He won the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Two Début Series for Young Performers and was the recipient of a Koerner Foundation Artist Award and funding fellowship from the COB Foundation of Canada. Through this generous support, he recently completed the Postgraduate Opera program at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Rudolf Piernay. While at the Guildhall, John was a prize winner in the English Song Competition, represented the college in an LSO Discovery Lunchtime Concert.
He is the resident artist of the Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now performing regularly with pianist Helen Mills. Helen will be the accompanist on 4th February.
