More Tea Vicar?

Dear Friends

The Easter story in the Bible is a story designed to elicit a response and is a story full of different characters and their responses to the death of Jesus.  This month I’m going to ask you to do something different and something counter-cultural.  I am going to ask you to

This Sunday…

This Sunday in Uplyme we look at the story of The Boy Jesus in the Temple.  What is this strange but grounded story – and the only story about the young Jesus – doing in the gospel of Luke?

Mary of Bethany

Many of you have asked for a copy of Morag’s talk from Sunday, so here it is.  Enjoy!

Identity

If you hadn’t noticed our current teaching series is on Women in the Bible, and this week we come to Mary of Bethany.  Mary was the sister of Martha and Lazarus and they lived in Bethany.

The two Bible readings that we are going to focus on are Luke 10:38-42 and John 12:1-8.  (If you would also like the read the account of Lazarus being raised from the dead you can read John 11:1-44.)

There is a theme that I would like to draw out of the two similar stories of Mary and this theme is Identity – it is a window on the gospel, a perspective on the redeeming nature of God.

I was inspired to re-record this video of the Nativity Rap (released Christmas 2010) as an entry for The Nativity Factor competition 2011. The shorter 3 minute version can be viewed on The
